President's Message

A Message from our President

Dear Friends and Community Supporters:

It is indeed my honor to serve as the 23rd President of the West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. As we embrace our mission of friends transforming communities through service, I look forward to continuing our rich legacy of friendship and service with you and the Palm Beach County community.

Established in 1946, The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, and is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other people of African ancestry. Building upon this legacy, the West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was founded in 1968, to serve the unmet needs of the community through educational, civic, and cultural activities, as well as transformational programs that enrich the lives of our neighborhoods and our communities. For over 54 years, The West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has worked tirelessly to have a positive impact in the lives of children to provide them with exceptional opportunities. Through these efforts, our chapter has raised over $150,000 in college scholarships. Our successes would not be possible without the generosity and support of our supporters and community partners.

We are proud of the growth and expansion of our programming initiatives, in particular, the establishment of the LEAP (Links Educational Arts Program) into STEAM Program at Roosevelt Community Middle School. This award-winning program is strategically designed to enhance STEAM career awareness and provide learning modules which stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics disciplines. The STEAM program is implemented in cooperation with our five (5) facets (Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services) to foster and enhance academic success, technical/scientific growth, knowledge, leadership, and communication development. Utilizing an ambitious umbrella program model, the facet toolkits, the creation of a National Society of Black Engineers Jr. (NSBEJr) Chapter, and the expertise of local STEAM professionals, the program encourages and builds student confidence and awareness of STEAM career pathways. The programming is focused, transformative and futuristic, and prepares the African American students at the Roosevelt Community Middle School for the global economy of the future.

Additionally, The West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated remains at the forefront of voter registration efforts, and we continue to play an integral role in the fight against Leukemia/Lymphoma and blood-related illnesses and various cancers; yet our work is not done. With the support of sponsors and community partners, we remain encouraged, enthusiastic, and ready to break down the barriers of health, economic and social injustices.

With much anticipated return, please join us this year at the White Rose Event, one of the Palm Beaches most sought-after affairs. The White Rose Event is our organization’s signature fundraiser, which benefits chapter programming and awards scholarships to local, deserving high school seniors who are pursuing a higher education in STEAM disciplines, education, or attending an HBCU (Historically Black College or University). We are proud that thousands of dollars have been awarded in scholarships to assist students in their pursuit to achieve a higher education.

The West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is dedicated to friendship and serving our communities through impactful work. We invite you to join us in our unwavering commitment to transformational programming.

In friendship and service,

Sonya Wofford
President
