Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Awareness
West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated
What Is Black K.A.R.E.™?
Black K.A.R.E.™ (Kidney Awareness, Resources, and Education) is a national health initiative of The Links, Incorporated focused on addressing the disproportionate impact of kidney disease in Black communities.
The West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter is committed to raising awareness, promoting prevention, and empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources needed to protect kidney health.

Why Kidney Health Matters
Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a silent epidemic — and it disproportionately affects Black Americans.
According to national data :

Although Black Americans make up roughly 13% of the U.S. population, they account for approximately 35% of Americans living with kidney failure.

Black adults are nearly 3–4 times more likely to develop end-stage kidney disease than White adults.

High blood pressure and diabetes — two leading causes of CKD — occur at higher rates in Black communities.
CKD often has no symptoms in its early stages, which is why awareness, screening, and prevention are critical.

Prevention Starts with You

Healthy Eating Tips for
Kidney Health
Supporting your kidneys begins with daily habits:
- Limit sodium (salt) to help control blood pressure and reduce kidney strain.
- Choose plant-forward meals and lean proteins when possible.
- Eat more fruits and vegetables to support metabolic and cardiovascular health.
- Reduce added sugars and processed foods to lower diabetes and obesity risk.
- Stay hydrated throughout the day (unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider).

Lifestyle Habits That Protect Your Kidneys
Small, consistent actions make a powerful difference:
- Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week.
- Monitor your health numbers:
- Blood Pressure
