Welcome to West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter - The Links, Incorporated's Fundraising

For 13 years in a row, the West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated has worked to turn pain into passion by participating in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk. Several members of the Chapter have endured the heartbreak of losing loved ones to blood cancer, including multiple myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma. Those members, with the help of their Link Sisters, turned that unenviable experience into engagement in a cause for hope. Each year, members of the West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter, Connecting Links, Heir-o-Links, and friends walk and fundraise for LLS’s annual event.

No group is hit harder by blood cancer than African Americans. For example, multiple myeloma, a rare and incurable blood cancer characterized by the proliferation of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow, accounts for 2% of all cancers, but it is the most common blood cancer in African Americans. One in 5 people diagnosed with multiple myeloma is African American and the number of new cases in African American communities is increasing at twice the rate of White communities. Similarly, research shows that in leukemia, a cancer of the early blood-forming cells, Black adults have the poorest 5-year outlook of all racial groups.

The West Palm Beach (FL) Chapter turned anguish into action by partnering with and supporting LLS, the largest non-profit funder of research for blood cancers. LLS has invested over $1.5 billion in research since its founding in 1949, leading to nearly every advancement in blood cancer treatment and breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics, and personalized medicine. Since 2017, LLS has helped advance 85% of the blood cancer treatment options approved by the FDA. When someone experiences the fear and uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis, LLS provides hope, compassion, and education.
